August Favourites

Is it really  September? I just don’t know where the days are going!  This post was originally meant to be a mid month favourites but with the summer holidays and a well earned trip abroad time just flew by and sadly this one got left in the draft file…my bad!

So – here we are a new month and a new season (though it’s more of an Indian summer in the south of the UK) I give you a few of my favourite finds from last month.

Tortz

Summer – whilst I always welcome it with open arms and sleeveless tops, but my thighs weep! I have absolutely bundles of maxi dresses and summer wear but in all honesty I dread it, god gave me curves and with that comes thick thighs..ok so my heritage is mainly to blame for that one what can I say it’s a blessing and a curse!

Like so many the cycle shorts(or similar) and talc were a staple  prevent the “chub rub”.  For me I’ve normally stuck to harem pants or jeans and vest but when the occasion required the dresses and glad rags were needed.   Despite dresses and skirts being easy and breezy, they also came with their fair share of thigh sized problems.  That was until I found Tortz, the tights/shorts hybrid was the answer to my prayers.

These pretty undergarms are perfect for those hot summer days, light enough as their sheer and comfortable too.  The lace trim is so pretty and gives it a little sassy edge.  It also has a silicone trim on the underside to keep them securely in place.

I picked up a pair from their eBay store and couldn’t wait to to take these babies out for a test run.  They slip on well however if you have long nails (or talons like what I had at the time) be careful as you can like me stick a big hole in the lace trim (my bad) sizing is pretty good too.  Though I would recommend for my curvier sisters to go a size up for added comfort.

Priced from £8.50 they’re an absolute steal plus there’s no fears of coming home and reaching to stick the bag of peas between your thighs lol

Dames & Dimes

I stumbled upon  Dames & Dimes on Instagram one evening,   The cute branding had me aesthetically! Their posts were interesting, appealing and full of wit.  One evening I had a lovely chat with them online following on from a post on their foot cream.  I’ve always taken care of my feetsies’ but since the dreaded sprain back in March I’ve been living in trainers, whilst comfy as hell, the wear has played havoc with my feet. I noticed they were very dry and despite my sticking to  regular footcare routine the dryness hadn’t changed.  So after some great advice and a little banter I decided to give these guys a whirl.

When my order arrived I was so excited as I’d heard so much about the foot cream – the smell alone was reason enough  to buy.

20160816_182642

How beautiful is the packaging?

Gorgeous packaging and lovely note of thanks

The Soothing + Restoring Intensive Foot Butter, is a rich cream which you lather on your feet before bed pop on some cotton socks and let the foot doctor do it’s magic.

Texture is more like a whipped mousse, which melts into an oil base rich with moisture. Made up of Mango butter and organic cocoa butter, it smells so edible with the addition of the peppermint oil it almost reminds me of a delicious milkshake (or frappuccino of sorts) either way it smells good enough to eat (though not recommended of course)

I’ve been using this now for a few weeks, and it’s worked wonders for my feet, they’ve been restored back to beauty and ready for holiday!

What I love most is that it’s 100% natural and handmade, so a lot of love and labour has gone into creating such a fab product.

The foot butter comes in at £9.95 for a 80g pot which will last you absolutely ages. I know the idea of popping on socks when you go to bed isn’t ideal in the heat but trust me you’ll want to make sure you put on a light cotton pair otherwise the oils will just soak up into your sheets – so you’ve been warned lovelies. But remember in the morning you wake up to super soft and nourished feet!

I also received a pot of the Energizing + Rejuvinating Sea Salt Body Scrub which I’ve tried and absolutely love and was a treat for my body whilst I was on holiday last week, it kept my skin super soft.  I always go for either citrus or sweet, and the scrub is packs a lime punch (think mojito for your skin) the scrub is made up of Epsom salts, sea salts and Dead Sea salts so you’re guaranteed you’ll be saying farewell to those dry skin cells!

Available online to order I give Dames & Dimes a massive thumbs up! I’ve just ordered myself the Nail & Cuticle balm – I’ve heard such great things and based on what I’ve tried, I know I’m in for a treat, look out for more fab reviews from a firm fave brand of mine!  In the meantime head over to their website to check out more from their range

Right Guard Shower Oil

So this was a surprise product for me as it just happened to be on my weekly shopping list, but Right Guard Shower+Oil is just fantastic and a winner for me this summer.

I picked up this bottle of happiness after having a disappointing experience with an in shower moisturiser.  So I was keen to try this gem, I think the scent and ingredients pretty much sold it to me (not to mention it was only £1.00 at the time)

Consistency is much like a shower gel but not as thick or gloopy, it lathers up well and feels smooth and silky on the skin.  Enriched with Argan, Marula and Almond oil, you just know you’re not only going to feel amazing but smell fab too thanks to the Monoi Blossom.

Post shower, my skin feels wonderfully moisturised, soft and supple, but for how long?  I road tested without further moisturiser and went on a day trip with son, by the time I came home and changed into PJ’s (yes that early) my legs were still soft and smooth, no dry patches at all.

Labelled as for dull skin, I’d agree and also just say if you love shower oils without the dangers of slipping in the shower (yep done that too!) then go for it.  It’s a great treat, and smells like holiday (if it had a scent)

I also found this great for shaving your legs, whilst the conditioner life hack was a god send, this shower oil works a treat, plus you can lather in the remainder once you’ve de-fuzzed.

Right Guard Shower +Oil is a great time saver especially if you’re in a rush or always have the intention to moisturise but forget!  It’s effective and won’t break the bank, I love this shower oil  and have since learnt that Right Guard also have other oils in this range which means I’ll be heading to the store very soon.  and will probably be sticking to this for a little longer.

Do you have a favourite shower product that you always pick up at the store? Or perhaps you enjoy the two step approach of wash then moisturise?  I’d love to hear your recommendations and thoughts.

Til next time lovelies.

May Empties

It’s been a while since I did an empties post and it just so happens I had a few lying around so here goes…..

Sanctuary White Lily & Damask Rose Body Wash

I’ve been a huge fan of Sanctuary products for such a long time now, in fact it was my first introduction to the world of Spas and Spa treatment/products.

Thanks to Boots and the amazing 3 for 2 at Christmas I can pretty much guarantee a treat from a loved one, not only do they offer fantastic value gift sets but quality is second to none.

If you’ve read my previous posts I absolutely love roses and their scent, so I was excited to try the White Lily and Damask Rose scent – it sounded so sultry however from what I understand it’s a hybrid rose which is often harvested for perfumery and it’s petals are edible! Mixed together with the White Lily and you have a delicately fragranced scent that can only be described as elegance!

The body wash also has beads which burst on contact with your skin.  It’s not a big lathering so if you like to get your soap n suds on, but leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.  For extra softness I used the body lotion from the same range.

For me this is a definite re-purchase, I love the scent, how my skin feels after use and the price.  At £5.50 for 250ml it’s a small price to pay for a little luxury.

Lee Stafford Here Come The Curls Creme Lite Hair Cream

As a girl blessed/cursed with naturally curly hair, I’m forever in search of the perfect product, that tames the frizz and leaves you with curls to die for without the crispness that remind you of your school days (if you’re my age then you know exactly what I mean!)

Enter Lee Stafford and his amazing Creme Light, all hail the pretty pink tube! I’m a big fan of hair creams, especially when it comes to my sorting my curls out.  Apply to damp hair and style as normal or style and go (my preferred method…especially when I’m the school run)  I love that this particular cream is specifically for finer hair, as hair cream can be a little heavy especially if you “accidentally” go overboard with the cream (Guilty as charged!)

As with all Lee Stafford’s products, they look great, smell great and work a treat. I’m left with endless waves that look great, healthy and feel soft to touch.

ATM this is my go-to product when it comes to going “au natural” with the hair.

JR Naturorganics Organic Mandarin and Chamomile Moisturiser

I’ve not heard of the brand, so I was pleased to see a little sample in my Beauty Blogger Box in April.  Founded in the UK, JR Naturorganics provide natural skincare products which are  SLS/SLES, paraben, phthalates, and silicone free not to mention they’ve taken into consideration vegans, and those with dairy, gluten, and peanut allergies.  So if you tick any of these listed, this is definitely a company you need to check out.

I’m a fan of naturally fragrant products and the sweet scent of Mandarin comes through well.  Packed with loads of goodness including avocado, jojoba and lavender, they have carefully curated the perfect ingredients to create a lovely hydrating moisturiser.

The consistency of the cream was quite thick for my liking but absorbed well into my skin, and though the cream has skin balancing ingredients, I found cream made my skin more oily than usual.

I should say that this cream is recommended for normal to sensitive skin which isn’t my skin at all, though having checked out other fellow bloggers posts on this product, the overall feedback is a positive one.

For more information on JR Naturorganics and their products click HERE

Vichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner

Ah Vichy, can you do any wrong? Nope not in my eyes.  I just love pretty much ALL their products that I’ve tried, but I’m a massive fan of their cleansing range. So I figured it was time I gave their Purete Thermale range a whirl.

Created for sensitive skin and enriched with their thermal spa water, this range for me feels like a treat for my skin.  It smells and feels wonderful.  The scent is fresh and leaves my skin fully cleansed and smooth without drying it out.

Along with the toner I bought the cleansing gel but I’ve only just started using, so far so good, but I’ll give you more deets soon.

With Vichy they always deliver great quality at affordable prices, so if you’re after a little treat from the high street (or online) I urge you to give them a try,and if you’re looking  for something for your sensitive skin, that’s delicately fragranced and without all the nonsense like parabens etc… then this brand is for you!

Available online and in Boots stores

So what do you think?  Have you tried any of these products? Do you have any recommendations for me to try I’m always looking for new products and new brands to discover.

Lots of love

Miss Naddy

Billion Dollar Brows – Review and GIVEAWAY

Word on the street is eyebrows are recognized as the cornerstone of beauty!

That’s what brand of the moment Billion Dollar Brows says and to be fair they’d be right.  With all the big make up trends that we saw last year, there was definitely a rise in our eyebrow game and let’s face it they are a pretty important feature of our face, can you even imagine not having them? *shudders*

So when I was invited to try out Billion Dollar Brows kits I was more than excited to give them a go.

So who are BDB?

With the concept being born out of their LA apartment back in 2004 Founder and CEO Natalie Plain along with her husband began with online sales.  Now an industry leader their products are available internationally and here in the UK from the likes of boots and in professional salons.

 The Kit

So I was lucky enough to receive 2 kits –

Best Sellers Kit which includes an assortment of their most popular products.
60 Seconds To Beautiful Brows Kit  A quick easy to use kit for when time is of the essence!

Let’s start with the 60 Second kit, this is a great compact and easy to use kit which consists of :

  1. Brow Powder in Taupe
  2. Double ended Brow and angled Brush

FotorCreated

This kit was great, minimum effort and easy to use.   The taupe shade is suitable for light and dark brunettes.  The brush is amazing, quality is great soft and works a treat to set the powder.  As I said minimum effort and perfect for your clutch on a night out or in your bag in day!

The second kit I tried out was the Bestsellers kit which consisted of :

  • Universal Brow Pencil:
  • Brow Duo Pencil
  • Brow Gel
  • Smudge Brush

Best_sellers_unboxed_copy__48460.1446136452.1280.1280

This is definitely for the girls that give good brow game. It’s billion dollar brows in a box!

The brow pencil again created to suit most skin tones, the brush on this however I found quite rough, but I’m putting it down to it’s newness. Again the pencil shade was perfect and went on well as other pencils I’ve tried I have to go at it like a 5 year old with a crayon lol! The brow duo pencil was an interesting addition, you have a highlighter and universal concealer for your on-the-go touch ups.  Very creamy in texture and blended well however I didn’t find it particularly well suited for my skin tone.  The gel was great, light like a serum and set the brows nicely, you didn’t get that crispy crunch that you find with some other brands.

So overall I really like Billion Dollar Brows, the products look great on and feel great putting on and priced at £24 for the 60 Second Kit and £49 for the Bestellers Kit, I think both kits are great investments.

****GIVEAWAY*****

Billion Dollar Brows have a fantastic giveaway!  You could win the Bestsellers Kit(Worth £49), no purchases necessary simply Enter here Hurry competition ends 31 January 2016

fLash Eyelash Serum

Just before the summer I was contacted by fLash and invited to try out their eyelash growth serum.  Let’s face it we are all in search of bigger, longer lashes be it, with glue, fibers, mascara, oils or serums, our quest for more is never ending.

I’ve been lucky to have long lashes so my quest has always to have more fuller looking lashes.  But in general I’ve been happy with majority of results I’ve had from most mascaras.  But when fLash contacted me I was intrigued.  I didn’t know too much about eyelash serums so this was an exciting little mission.

So how do serums work?

Serums are normally applied on the upper lid line so it penetrates the follicles and stimulate them into growing the lash hair or new hairs.  Most serums come in a small tube with a wand similar to a liquid eyeliner and you simply line the top of the lid and leave it over night to work it’s magic.  The fLash serum was just that!

It comes brightly packaged  with a 2ml tube which lasts up to 3 months.   Simply apply daily and wait for the results.

So what did I think?

Application seemed easy enough and without any irritation which was one of my biggest concerns, though fLash does state it is safe for sensitive eyes.  Within the first week can’t say I noticed much difference, but it does say on the box that best results are seen after a few weeks in.  So I patiently waited and kept up my daily application.

After week 3 I began to notice my lashes looked fuller an the tips were reaching just below my brow line.  So I was very excited to see what they were going to look like after the full 3 months.

fLash

Week on week view of lashes from Week 2

Verdict?

I was worried about having spider eyes which I’d seen a fair bit of online whilst doing research on the serums, but overall was pretty impressed with this tiny bottle of joy, my lashes looked great, I love the fullness of my lashes.  The only problem with serums and like with all hair growth it isn’t even, I’ve noticed a small part of my eyeline which is much shorter than the rest, hopefully in time, they’ll grow with the rest of my lashes.

fLash is available to buy online at £29 which I think is reasonable and considering the results it’s a fraction of what some of the other brands charge.  If you’re looking to try out a serum I’d would certainly  recommend  giving fLash a try.  It’s easy to use, won’t break the bank and guaranteed great results.

Have you used any eyelash serums before?  What are your experiences or recommendations!

Oz Naturals – Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Oz Naturals kindly invited me to try out their Hylaronic Acid Serum ,  having used the eye serum before and loved it, I was hopeful to have another positive experience with this brand.

I’ve used serums in the past but  have tried to steer clear of them in my daytime skin routine as they normally leave me shiny or greasy under my make up. But this little pot of magic was amazing. I started with adding it to my night routine and in the morning woke up with soft dewy skin. It’s more of a water based serum and absorbs into the skin pretty quickly. It agrees well with my day moisturiser too which was a bonus. What was even better was my make up stayed pretty matte the whole day!!

After almost 2 weeks of use, my skin looks clearer and feels better I’ve even noticed less of a breakout than usual at this time of the month. The packaging states more suited to dry skin/mature skin but I have a young 38 year old skin and am combination/oily and it seemed pretty effective for me.

Oz Naturals are an American based company, which combine science with nature giving you fantastic products at reasonable prices.  The serum is £12.39 and is available from Amazon. Oz Naturals are fast becoming a firm favourite of mine and would highly recommend trying their products.71SYzLExewL._SL1200_

OZ Naturals’ Super Youth Eye Gel Review

OZ Naturals are a new name for me.  Known to be leaders in natural skincare and with products that are cruelty-free, paraben free, sulphate free, mineral oil free, lanolin free and gluten free, they certainly peaked my interest and having  had a look online, it’s clear that they are a popular brand and have some well loved products, so I was more than excited when they invited me to try out the Super Youth Eye Gel.

The eye gel is designed To treat every major concern including dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles and is safe to use for  for all skin types.

As a mum to an energetic 6 year old and work part time as well as manage the home I, like many suffer from lack of sleep from time to time and every now and then I can really see it in the dark circles or puffy eyes that I’m left with.  The serum seemed perfect to trial out and I’ve given it just over 2 weeks whether it really does work.

oz

The gel comes in a 15ml bottle with pump dispenser.  I made the mistake of depressing the pump all the way on my first application but have since learnt.  The pump is very generous.  You really only need a very small amount  and a little really goes a very long way.

oz6

It has a light and pleasant scent, I think it’s the Aloe that comes through the most, but no where near as strong as other Aloe based products out in the market at present.  The gel is lightweight and absorbs into the skin very quickly.  It can also be used all over the face and under make up.

I’ve used morning and night and enjoy using this product.  It’s lightweight, and effective.  I personally like the coolness of the gel on application.  Personal observations would be my eyes look less puffy especially in the morning. I’m born with naturally dark circles around my eyes and no product can change my genetics so I can’t comment on whether it’s lightened them or not.  But having read many reviews whilst researching, the feedback is very positive. So my personal experience with this product is based on how I felt and looked after the 2 weeks.

Priced at £13.99 which I feel is very reasonable in comparison to other eye gels on the market and available from Amazon as one of their bestsellers which is always a comfort when purchasing, through a company we all know and trust.

Having a nosy further online, I found that they have more than 250 positive reviews for their products.  I would recommend and will continue to use the gel and think it would be great in the summer, especially with the cooling effect it had on my eyes.

Having looked into Oz Naturals other products I’m very keen on trying a few others out.  So I’ll be sure to give you a heads up as soon as I’ve picked them up.

All OZ Naturals products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulphate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten-free, and GMO-free. OZ Naturals takes pride in making every single one of our products using natural and organic materials. We do not and will never use sulphates or parabens.

Do you use eye gels?  Which do you use? I’d love to hear your personal recommendations.

Bloggers Love LFW Dinner – The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!

Now I’m still new to the bloggers networking scene and only really know Bloggers Love, so I was really excited to be invited to their London Fashion Week Dinner and Gifting Lounge event. However I was truly gutted when it turned out to be one of the most disappointing experiences.

The theme set was Gossip Girl, now I know it’s been a while since we’ve seen the frenemies from the Upper East Side on our tv’s, I figured I’d roll with it, but deciding who to go as was harder than I thought. In the end I chose to channel my inner Georgina Sparks (AKA Dawn from Buffy), I rocked black skinnys, heeled shoe-boots and leather jacket ensemble.  Apart from her scheming ways and great one liners, Georgina was also known for her chunky jewellery, unfortunately the top didn’t allow for a statement piece so I opted for something more suited to the evening’s theme – my engraveable from Stella & Dot for promoting star stylist and of course a good ole arm party!

FotorCreated

I went to the venue with @flomatthews , on the train we did speculate what the dinner was going to be like.  Our main concern was the fact we’d paid £28 for the dinner which initially was meant to be a 3 course meal with 2 drinks.  This had to be changed due to caterers pulling out, so we were then told it was going to be a buffet dinner, which is no big deal.  However this then got changed to “gourmet pizza” a few weeks before the big day you can understand our speculation.  I wondered what kind of pizza costs £28? I’ll come back to that in a moment.

The event was held at Arch Gallery in Hoxton.  On arrival, we were checked off the guest list and entered the gifting lounge.   One of the great reasons to book the dinner was that we were given exclusive access to the gifting lounge ahead of the other bloggers who were just coming for the lounge. On previous confirmations there was meant to be around 20 or so brands represented, I think there was only half that on the actual night.  Unfortunately so many weren’t really ready to talk to us as they were still setting up, so whilst waiting for food to be ready I decided to get my nails done by the lovely ladies of City Swish I’m a big fan of the fast beauty and this was ideal as my beautician couldn’t squeeze me in this week and I didn’t have time to do them beforehand.  I went with a vampy ox blood red by OPI.

That's Better!

As soon as they were done I had a chance to speak to Collagen Gold who have a range of Collagen supplements which come in drink form, and  Sniffy Wiffy who are a lovely family run company that make fab beauty products with a cancer awareness at the heart of their mission statement.  They’re cute labels come with a “how to” on checking yourself, there’s products  are made for the boys too! They came with a few samples which had wonderful scents.  I particularly liked the Cinnamon & Orange scent but having checked out their website I have learned they have over 30 different scents! I’m most definitely going be treating myself to a pot of scented goodness, the question is which scent to choose?

Before I had the chance to chat to anyone else we were whisked off for our meal, which was already late.  The queue was long, slow and we were all very hungry.  As we entered the room we could see stacks of take away pizza boxes. It was obvious that there was an issue with labelling as we saw a poor girl frantically checking all the boxes to find each persons order.  This sent alarm bells ringing.  Where is the gourmet experience? Is it even a gourmet pizza? The food was obviously cold especially after seeing them being opened and checked over and over. When we finally got to sit down the room was small, freezing and very cramped.  There was no dinner party hostess as confirmed to us the atmosphere was quiet and subdued, I think everyone was more in shock as to how wrong the dinner had gone. A couple of the girls I spoke to on my table were bitterly disappointed. I just felt awful for them as one had paid for her friends ticket as a gift and had come down from Grimsby, another girl had flown in from Glasgow!!  Whilst all the ladies had made a day of it in London, you couldn’t help but feel really upset for them to pay for travel and accommodation as well as the dinner.  By then I was grateful my commute was only 40 minutes!

The seating arrangements were large picnic benches, plastic dinner settings and the tables were delicately decorated  however there was no sign of any beverage other than cucumber water, which was fine with the meal but what happened to the 2 drinks we were promised?  I would have thought a glass of wine or something fizzy would have been the least that could have been provided.  After a little wait (some waited nearly over 10 minutes)  I was finally given my pizza which by then stone cold and to add insult to injury it was burnt! So food was cold pizza out of a takeaway box and a glass of water!

At our tables were cute little VIB cards, which we were supposed to be able to show a brand and choose an item to be gifted. With all the stress of dinner I had almost forgotten about the card. So I quickly ate headed back to out the lounge so I could take advantage of this opportunity.  After the dinner the lounge was open to all bloggers however as soon as I entered back in the lounge I found myself stuck in a corner and unable move.  The room was filled with over 200 people and apparently based on what I’ve seen on twitter there were a few celebrities (totally missed that!)

IMG_2336

I sure didn’t feel like a VIB!

The brands were completely swamped by fellow bloggers, it was overwhelming for all parties concerned.  Queues started to form all over the place with people fighting to to get past each other.  The crowd was so big I couldn’t get to any of the brands to talk to them nor could I chat to other bloggers.  By then my stress levels had reached its peak and unable to cope with the masses I decided it was time to leave.

My journey home gave me time to reflect on the evenings events, though it didn’t take long for the tweets start appearing, it was clear I wasn’t the only one left feeling upset and bitterly disappointed.

Following this Danielle the founder and organiser of Bloggers Love issued a heartfelt apology.  She explains that the original catering company were fraudulent, which is why there was a change to the dinner.  As an experienced event organiser I can appreciate things go wrong, however as a paying guest I can’t help feel  really upset about it all. I  have contacted Danielle directly with my thoughts and whilst there are valuable lessons learned as a guest and as the organiser I do feel I need share with you the events of my night out!

So to summarise :

The  Good : Meeting with lots of lovely fellow bloggers, catching up with friends, meeting some great brands (that I managed to see and speak with)

The Bad : The food, the organisation of the event, the venue was just too small for the number of guests attending, having a VIB that was completely useless

The Ugly : Losing £28 for a pizza, without and form or offer of recompense.  (I won’t be holding my breath) Being crushed and unable to move in an small room which exceeded it’s capacity.

I love to network and despite the blogging community still being new ground for me,  I don’t feel that I will be deterred from attending event’s like last night.  In fact it’s probably encouraged me to seek out other events and meet more fellow bloggers. Will I attend another Bloggers Love event in the future? I think it’s too soon to ask, but I will be sure to eat before attending.

I know I’m not the only one to have posted about the whole experience and I won’t be the last, but if you are reading this and wonder whether to go to these type of events I would urge you to still go, get yourself out there, meet fellow bloggers and get to know the brands, more importantly it should always be an enjoyable experience.

xoxo
