Life Update

Hey lovelies,

Huge apologies for the radio silence – life has been pretty hectic, it’s no excuse but hey I’m only human right?

Some of you know I returned to work over the summer which has been great, then followed summer hols, an then before we knew it,B Boy was back at school and now Christmas is almost round the corner!

So what’s going on these days I hear you cry, well after a long time off searching for a new job, being cut off by HMRC, then finding out they overpaid(don’t even get me started) I finally saw light at the end of the tunnel in an unexpected place….3 months down the line I love it! No really, I’ve had many jobs over the years and whilst my job has taken me to unfamiliar territory, I can honestly say I really am enjoying my life.

One thing I’ve not yet got to grips with is the home life/work balance, but the hubz and little man have been so supportive and I’m trying not to sweat the small stuff, but honestly I’ve no idea how women out there hold down a job, work 40+hrs, be a mum and and wifey and manage the house all at the same time. (and if any of you say get a cleaner.. trust me the thought has already crossed my mind)

So what’s in store for me and blogging, well there’s lot’s of exciting things ahead.  I’m in the process of updating the look and feel of my site, as well as a new laptop to help with my work to, thanks to the wonderful gift from the hubz.

So if you guys can bear with me just a little while longer whilst I promise to be more present over here, but if you can’t wait, just tune in to my Instagram or Facebook channels for more regular updates.

Loves ya

Back To The Drawing Board

So I have to start from scratch, yes the All Inclusive got the better of me, Bulgaria was amazing and I know it was only a week, but when you book a holiday like this you seem to be like a hamster stuck on it’s wheel.  All your meals become 3 course meals(!!) To think I was more concerned about the amount of alcohol I was going to consume, turns out I had more control than I thought… that and being in that heat  clearly knackered me out.

I’m finally going to see the consultant regarding my back and leg so hopefully we work towards getting fitter. Before the holidays my GP did offer me Xenical (Alli to us in the UK) which I did try but further research and experience led me to give them a pass for the time being.

So schools back, routines are firmly in place and I’m back to being on plan (as best as I can)  I’m not sure if I need a fresher approach with a dose of self discipline. But for now whilst I am unable to attend my group I’m going to follow SW eating plan for now.

So today’s food diary was :

Breakfast – 35g Muesli with Almond Milk (HeA and HeB)

Lunch – Bacon salad sandwich  with side of sliced tomatoes(6 syns)

Dinner – Stuffed peppers with side salad

Drinks 2 x Coffees with milk and sugar (4 syns)

Orange Juice (2 syns)

Low sugar blackcurrant carton

Total syns for today 12 syns

I know there’s not a lot going on here, but I just needed to make a start.  I’ll be hitting up Pinterest later so if you have a favourite Pinner you think would be worth a look or you have a board with great healthy and quick recipes, leave a link below.

Til next time lovelies

August Favourites

Is it really  September? I just don’t know where the days are going!  This post was originally meant to be a mid month favourites but with the summer holidays and a well earned trip abroad time just flew by and sadly this one got left in the draft file…my bad!

So – here we are a new month and a new season (though it’s more of an Indian summer in the south of the UK) I give you a few of my favourite finds from last month.

Tortz

Summer – whilst I always welcome it with open arms and sleeveless tops, but my thighs weep! I have absolutely bundles of maxi dresses and summer wear but in all honesty I dread it, god gave me curves and with that comes thick thighs..ok so my heritage is mainly to blame for that one what can I say it’s a blessing and a curse!

Like so many the cycle shorts(or similar) and talc were a staple  prevent the “chub rub”.  For me I’ve normally stuck to harem pants or jeans and vest but when the occasion required the dresses and glad rags were needed.   Despite dresses and skirts being easy and breezy, they also came with their fair share of thigh sized problems.  That was until I found Tortz, the tights/shorts hybrid was the answer to my prayers.

These pretty undergarms are perfect for those hot summer days, light enough as their sheer and comfortable too.  The lace trim is so pretty and gives it a little sassy edge.  It also has a silicone trim on the underside to keep them securely in place.

I picked up a pair from their eBay store and couldn’t wait to to take these babies out for a test run.  They slip on well however if you have long nails (or talons like what I had at the time) be careful as you can like me stick a big hole in the lace trim (my bad) sizing is pretty good too.  Though I would recommend for my curvier sisters to go a size up for added comfort.

Priced from £8.50 they’re an absolute steal plus there’s no fears of coming home and reaching to stick the bag of peas between your thighs lol

Dames & Dimes

I stumbled upon  Dames & Dimes on Instagram one evening,   The cute branding had me aesthetically! Their posts were interesting, appealing and full of wit.  One evening I had a lovely chat with them online following on from a post on their foot cream.  I’ve always taken care of my feetsies’ but since the dreaded sprain back in March I’ve been living in trainers, whilst comfy as hell, the wear has played havoc with my feet. I noticed they were very dry and despite my sticking to  regular footcare routine the dryness hadn’t changed.  So after some great advice and a little banter I decided to give these guys a whirl.

When my order arrived I was so excited as I’d heard so much about the foot cream – the smell alone was reason enough  to buy.

How beautiful is the packaging?

Gorgeous packaging and lovely note of thanks

The Soothing + Restoring Intensive Foot Butter, is a rich cream which you lather on your feet before bed pop on some cotton socks and let the foot doctor do it’s magic.

Texture is more like a whipped mousse, which melts into an oil base rich with moisture. Made up of Mango butter and organic cocoa butter, it smells so edible with the addition of the peppermint oil it almost reminds me of a delicious milkshake (or frappuccino of sorts) either way it smells good enough to eat (though not recommended of course)

I’ve been using this now for a few weeks, and it’s worked wonders for my feet, they’ve been restored back to beauty and ready for holiday!

What I love most is that it’s 100% natural and handmade, so a lot of love and labour has gone into creating such a fab product.

The foot butter comes in at £9.95 for a 80g pot which will last you absolutely ages. I know the idea of popping on socks when you go to bed isn’t ideal in the heat but trust me you’ll want to make sure you put on a light cotton pair otherwise the oils will just soak up into your sheets – so you’ve been warned lovelies. But remember in the morning you wake up to super soft and nourished feet!

I also received a pot of the Energizing + Rejuvinating Sea Salt Body Scrub which I’ve tried and absolutely love and was a treat for my body whilst I was on holiday last week, it kept my skin super soft.  I always go for either citrus or sweet, and the scrub is packs a lime punch (think mojito for your skin) the scrub is made up of Epsom salts, sea salts and Dead Sea salts so you’re guaranteed you’ll be saying farewell to those dry skin cells!

Available online to order I give Dames & Dimes a massive thumbs up! I’ve just ordered myself the Nail & Cuticle balm – I’ve heard such great things and based on what I’ve tried, I know I’m in for a treat, look out for more fab reviews from a firm fave brand of mine!  In the meantime head over to their website to check out more from their range

Right Guard Shower Oil

So this was a surprise product for me as it just happened to be on my weekly shopping list, but Right Guard Shower+Oil is just fantastic and a winner for me this summer.

I picked up this bottle of happiness after having a disappointing experience with an in shower moisturiser.  So I was keen to try this gem, I think the scent and ingredients pretty much sold it to me (not to mention it was only £1.00 at the time)

Consistency is much like a shower gel but not as thick or gloopy, it lathers up well and feels smooth and silky on the skin.  Enriched with Argan, Marula and Almond oil, you just know you’re not only going to feel amazing but smell fab too thanks to the Monoi Blossom.

Post shower, my skin feels wonderfully moisturised, soft and supple, but for how long?  I road tested without further moisturiser and went on a day trip with son, by the time I came home and changed into PJ’s (yes that early) my legs were still soft and smooth, no dry patches at all.

Labelled as for dull skin, I’d agree and also just say if you love shower oils without the dangers of slipping in the shower (yep done that too!) then go for it.  It’s a great treat, and smells like holiday (if it had a scent)

I also found this great for shaving your legs, whilst the conditioner life hack was a god send, this shower oil works a treat, plus you can lather in the remainder once you’ve de-fuzzed.

Right Guard Shower +Oil is a great time saver especially if you’re in a rush or always have the intention to moisturise but forget!  It’s effective and won’t break the bank, I love this shower oil  and have since learnt that Right Guard also have other oils in this range which means I’ll be heading to the store very soon.  and will probably be sticking to this for a little longer.

Do you have a favourite shower product that you always pick up at the store? Or perhaps you enjoy the two step approach of wash then moisturise?  I’d love to hear your recommendations and thoughts.

ChloBo Jewellery

When it comes to my jewellery I’m quite the eclectic, I love to go from statement to sparkle, but I also love strip back on the bling with go with a boho look, my favourite being stacking bracelets –   Enter ChloBo!

A UK based brand with a celebrity following.  I can totally see why Chlobo has fast become a coveted brand. Born out of travelling and inspiration taken  clearly from many cultures, there is so much to choose from online and so many ways to wear.  Be it stacked as an arm party or worn on their own.
I have the gorgeous  Cute Charm bracelet with the Elephant in Rose Gold. It comes beautifully  packaged in a sliding drawer gift box, complete with a little note about the symbolic meaning of your charm.

In many eastern cultures,  Elephants are a symbol of power, strength and peace, my bracelet represents peace and good luck.

Having spent many years working with a boutique costume jewellery brand,  I’m very familiar with the  type of quality to expect and standards were exactly the same. The bracelet itself is made up of small balls which have been threaded onto a very sturdy band, which you just roll on/off to wear.  It’s Rose Gold, which isn’t normally a go to for me personally, however when you mix it up with silvers and gold, it just adds to the fun of wearing.  The bracelet also features the ChloBo signature tag as well as the charm hanging down. This is  fine quality product to go with the brand name.

What I love about the brand is the different collections available.  All of which have a definite theme surrounding symbols and seem a perfect reminder of a beach holiday or of someone special.

Other jewellery is available online in Gold or Silver as well as semi precious stones.  Prices start from £45 and come with a 12 month warranty.  Of course with costume jewellery the care is down to the individual.  So my tips to making your jewellery stay beautiful are :

  • Last on/First off

When you’re getting ready, always make sure it’s the last thing you put on, let your perfume dry before putting on any jewellery, the oils and other chemicals can cause damage to the overall look and could tarnish.

  • Moisture is not your friend

We’ve all done it, you get the shower going then your remember you’ve still got your jewellery on that you don’t want to wear in the shower.  You take it off and leave it on the side, the steam and moisture will cause your jewellery to tarnish.  PUT IT AWAY

  • Beware Perfumes, Moisturiser and fake tans.

Pretty much anything that needs to go on your skin can and will decrease the longevity of the plating so always refer back to rule 1.

  • Cleaning your jewellery

There’s no need for fancy cleaning kits and chemicals, a good old polish cloth will bring your jewellery back to life.

Overall I think ChloBo is a lovely brand that offers a quality product with lots  of beautifully crafted pieces to choose from. I’ve been wearing my bracelet since it arrived and have had lots of comments on it.

So whether you are looking for a gift for a loved one, your bestie or something extra to add to your arm party – then look no further.

I have my eye on a few other bracelets and rings, which no doubt I will be purchasing in the future.  Do you have a ChloBo bracelet?  What are your favourites?  Do you have any other brands perhaps I should check out?

Long time no speak…Update!

I know its been a while and I’m sorry lovelies…but its been for good reason, a few changes in life and left me with less time to blog, BUT I’m not going anywhere I just need to move things around and make a little extra time.

So what’s the skinny?

Well not me for starters…jokes aside as many of you know my weightloss journey has been rocky so decided to take a time out from group and go see the doc. I just found it difficult to accept that having been on plan since April that just under half a stone was an acceptable loss. As it turns out some of my meds are messing with the weight loss. But we’re trying some alternatives and I’m still on plan, but I’m not returning to SW for a little while. I am however geared up with my fitbit, fitness pal and a low fat diet and it seems my new motivation is helping as of the start of July I’m noticing a loss in inches – my jeans are so much a squeeze and I’ve found myself reaching for my belt which is a positive sign!

Another great motivator is I have a new job!!! Yep after months of unemployment and a slow fall back into depression, the fates have dealt me a better hand for the next half of the year! It’s nothing glamorous but for me – it’s great, I’m learning an entirely new industry and have a new focus.

In between all this I’ve been trying to work on how to fit blogging in as I’ve always been in the lucky position of either working from home and having the time whilst I was out of work. So I’m still trying to figure out what’s going to be best for me and for you guys.

I have been trying all kinds of hair and beauty products and also trying out new recipes in the kitchen too all of which I’ll be posting up over the coming days. So if you’re still with me, hang in there I’ve lots of great things to share with you. If you need a quick fix remember you can always catch up on all my thoughts and shenanigans over on my other channels.

Have a great week lovelies

xoxo

Maya Curling Creme Review

I was given a sample of this styling cream while back when it was included in my Blogger Beauty Box.

As a girl with natural curls I was pretty excited to try out. Packed with lots of natural ingredients like olive oil, Argan oil, Shea and cedar wood bark oil to name a few,  Maya’s confident curling crème claims to combat dryness, ageing, split ends and frizz.

First off it smelt great and light in texture.  Application is directly on to damp hair and style as normal.

Immediate opinion was impressed, my waves looked natural and frizz free. Unfortunately they didn’t last the day.. to be fair it could have been our British weather that caused mayhem with the hair but as they day went on, my hair lost it’s smoothness and waves became a little frizzy.  I also noticed I was left with white flecks of residue in my hair, which wasn’t great, I’ve experienced this with a well known brand hand have just learnt it’s not for me or my hair.

Overall it’s a lovely product, however I wish the sample pot was a bigger so I could have given the cream a few more uses before delivering my verdict, but smells lovely, feels great and is also reasonably priced.
